im VERY VERY interested to hear the opinions on this fantastic (in my eyes) breakthrough 1994 'pop-punk' album
i reckon, without Dookie, we wouldn't have Spunge. I feel like Im gonna get shot for saying that.

Yeah you will. Dookie is a good album, but isn't particularly influential. You will have to go a few years further back to bands like Social Distortion, The Pixies and even bands like The Clash if you want to make claims like that. Dookie was big at the time, but it was just another punk album from just another punk band from California. There was loads around the early 90's, of which operation ivy/Rancid were my pick.
American Idiot was probably more influential on the market, as it showed the record companies that left-wing generic 3-chord rock can sell 9 million copies. I do like that album though, and in fact do like Green Day, though it may not sound like it
